The enigmatic TX-monogram

Anonymous, late 6th century. Half Siliqua (?) (Silver, 15 mm, 1.00 g), Constantinopolis. Helmeted, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantinopolis to right. Rev. Large monogram of T and X. Asolati 2012, p. 109, fig. 120 (this coin). Bendall, Anonymous silver, RN 158 (2002), Type 12. Extremely rare. Slightly porous, otherwise, good very fine.

This is one of the finest examples of this type, which has been found in hoards closing with coins of Maurice Tiberius and Phocas. The meaning of the TX monogram remains unknown.
